Long Distance Relationship

So. I'm thinking that instead of that english saddle, I should invest in one of these:

It might be the fastest way to get around these days, and perhaps the only way I'm going to be able to pursue any activity with my horse!

I have never been on a sleigh ride before. I would love to someday. Is it all it's cracked up to be?

My horse and I are having a long distance relationship. It's like we're just pen pals. Paint Girl sends new pictures of him from time to time, and I email and ask her how he is doing.

Notice the lead rope hanging from his halter? Paint Girl was very proud of herself, and rightfully so. I had asked her if she could check My Boy's hooves for snow and ice. She tried to catch him a few days ago while he was eating hay, but he walked away from her and refused to be caught.

I advised her to try it while he was eating grain, and that did the trick. It was probably good for him to be caught for a brief hoof picking, then released.

They have been inundated with snow at their The Painted Creek farm. Soon, to be affectionately rechristened as The Icicle Creek. Or perhaps, The Snow Creek.

I think the end is almost in sight. We have a trend of warmer weather heading our way at the end of the week. Then begins the big unthaw. And as lovely as the snow has been, it's time for life to get back to some sense of normalcy.

Hopefully, after the holidays, I will be able to make it out to see my horse.

Baring any incoming earthquakes, tornadoes, or tsunamis.

  1. Sleigh Rides really are as fun as they sound. Especially when they are followed up with hot cocoa and marshmellows! I hope you get to enjoy one someday! For now I think hanging out with your parents and e-mail up dates about your boy sounds like a pretty good idea!

  2. We have had snow, but the wind and cold has been terrible. Today it is suppose to be in the teens and will feel like a heat wave!

The snow in the trees next to an appy make for some great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Sleigh rides are fun.
I've been stuck too. We've got feet of snow on the ground and it was snowing and cold for days. This morning it was -10 when I got up.

  5. Sleigh riding is the absolute best! Whether it is in a nifty little cutter like you have shown, or on a big sleigh with a heavy team. I had a little cutter similar to the picture but with 2 seats that Sunshine used to pull. I will try to scrape up some photos of it . Meanwhile Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.

  6. I found the sleigh ride a bit on the chilly side because I'm not moving, just sitting in the cold. Nevertheless, it's still a fun experience.
My Boy doesn't seem to be suffering from the cold at all. And, it IS cold up here....yowsa!
Enjoy your Christmas with your family!

  8. The sleigh sounds like a great idea at this point! I've never done one, but snuggling up with a blanket and hot cocoa on a sleigh ride would be fun!

  9. Um, it’s going to snow more before it warms up enough to get the snow to leave completely!

  14. Sleigh rides are fun, also quiet and tranquil with just the swish of the runners and the breathing of the horses for accompaniment - unless of course the passengers are rowdy:) Sleigh bells make for atmosphere, as well as warning people that you are coming. A light sleigh can move quite quickly because it is easy for a horse to pull on the level.
