Fashion Friday: My New Treasures

As you might remember, due to snow, I just celebrated Christmas with my family this past Saturday. A few of my gifts fit nicely into a Fashion Friday post so I thought I would share them with you!

The first gift is a green camouflage baseball cap, with a green crystal cross on it, which I am wearing above. I always wear baseball caps when working with my horse. I wish I was more comfortable wearing cowboy hats!

I have long hair and a few bangs and I have to keep my hair off my face when I'm riding, it drives me crazy. It also keeps the rain and the sun out of my eyes.

I also have to tell you about the necklace. It was a gift to myself. Doesn't everyone do that around the holidays? I have seen these dog tag necklaces, in various forms and styles, the past few years. Then a month ago, I found a blank stainless steel dog tag for $6.99 on clearance at a discount store. I was so excited! I took it to a watch shop that does engraving. I had "O! For a Horse with Wings!" engraved on the front. The engraver chose a great font to go with the Shakespearean quote. It cost me an arm and a leg but I love how it turned out. On the back of the tag, I had my horse's name engraved. It was hard to get you a good close-up picture of the engraving as the dog tag is so reflective.

Now, for the fun part. As a Christmas gift, I found a jewelry company online and had similar dog tag necklaces designed for Paint Girl and my mom! I had them choose from a list of short horsey quotes, but didn't tell them why. They chose To Ride a Horse is to Ride the Sky, and Horses Lend us the Wings We Lack. I had their quote engraved on the front and their horse's names on the back. So now we have matching dog tags necklaces. Another great western way to wear them is to take the tag off the bead ball chain and string it onto a piece of leather. I actually just used an extra saddle string!

Paint Girl got me a personalized gift for the holiday. She printed out all of her favorite photos of me and My Boy in black and white, then framed them together. I have thousands of pictures of my horse online, but very few are actually in frames! It was a really special gift!

My other fabulous gift, this one from my parents, was a western style cowgirl purse. Over Thanksgiving my cousin and I were shopping and I saw this purse on sale (we are a bargain shopping family, let me tell you) and I said I liked it and tried it on. But it wasn't marked down quite enough for me to splurge. My mom was Christmas shopping with my aunt and cousin a few weeks later and must have gotten the hint from my cousin that I liked it! Paint Girl got a similar styled purse, too. Now we will be matching bling bling cowgirl sisters!

I just love the hobo style. It has leopard print hide on one side, brown leather on the other, faux crocodile trim, and many, many amber-colored crystals on the belt-like shoulder strap.

Few people around these parts use bling bling western purses like this. Maybe I will start a new trend?
Thanks to my family for my new holiday treasures!
