Rest in Peace, Zoe.
Thank you to your mommy for sharing you with us.
Thank you for being part of our family.
As we ride the trails and the barrels this summer, it will not be the same without you.
May you gallop the trails of heaven in peace and without pain.
Hugs from Your Pony Cousins
{I just got word last night that Zoe had to be put down. She had tumors in her throat and guttural pouches, which she had undergone surgery and treatment for. Sadly, the cancer had spread to her lungs. My heart goes out to her owner, she was her best friend. In this picture taken at our family guest ranch trip last summer, Zoe is decked out for a pink themed cancer ride in honor of family members that have passed from cancer. }
You will be missed Zoe girl

ReplyDeleteHow sad to hear! My heart goes out to Zoey, and everyone sshe touched. What a lovely mare. And very pretty in pink!
ReplyDeletePlease pass along my condolences to her owner. She was a beauty.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to the owner. Takes me back to Tequila and they looked alike only my girl was an Appaloosa. Science says grey horses get tumors due to the greying gene. So sad...
ReplyDeleteSo hard to loose any horse, I wish they could figure out why greys are so prone to cancer.
ReplyDeleteSorry Zoes mom, (((hug)))
Thank you Pony Girl for your loving tribute to Zoe. I first met Zoe when she was brought to my stables for me to consider her as a 2nd horse for my husband. An eight year old "Doc Bar" mare that was "finished" in cutting and more talented than I had the need for. One of my friends bought her and for the next 5 years Zoe was a dressage/ jumping school horse, rarely on the trails. When her owner was no longer able to ride she sold Zoe to her new mom and we quickly became great friends riding together and sharing our horses. In November of last year, Zoe and her mom placed 5th in the Oregon Trail Competion! Because I am in the desert this time of the year I was not able to say goodbye to beautiful Zoe but the day we loaded Jesse to head south she came to her stall door for me to bring her out. Jesse and Zoe were almost always ridden together. I gave her a hug and a kiss on the nose and said to her, "not this time pretty girl, you have to stay here with your mom. I wish I had not been in such a rush and been able to have a few more minutes with her!
ReplyDeleteYour Desert Rose Auntie
{Desert Rose}~ Thanks for sharing more about Zoe! I know that she was a good solid mare. Last summer she had at least 3 or 4 different rookie riders run her through the barrels, poles, and other playday games all morning long, and she hung in there like a champ and didn't lose a rider! ;) She was also steady on the trails.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to read comments about the greying gene, I have heard that horses that have a lot of white markings or are gray are prone to various melanomas or skin cancers, but I did not know about internal tumors? Do they have any idea what could have caused this?
Sorry to hear about Zoe.She sounds like a lovely horse. Glad her owners had the strength and love to do the right thing.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so sorry! It's a heartbreaking, impossible decision to make, but I'm sure Zoe had a life filled with love and affection and will be waiting on the other side to greet her best friend when the time arrives.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear this....so sad. She was a cute one. Rest in peace, Zoe.
ReplyDeleteCheyenne
Heather, my trainer, has 2 grey mares that both are living with cancer. Is it more common in grey mares?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I forgot to leave my condolences for Zoe's mom.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...I am so sorry!! Losing a horse (or any animal for that matter) is never easy. :(
ReplyDeleteSo sad for Zoe and her mom. Always remember the good times!
