Riding Old Blu

Yep, Old Blu was a pretty good pony.

I wore my best cowgirl boots. I wore boots because it was too cold for my flip-flops (hence the down jacket) and I could tuck my jeans into them. I was really just afraid of getting my jeans caught in the chain. Remember that? I felt 9 years old again.

I looked around 9 years old again, judging from my unsteady bike- riding equitation.

I should add that after nearly three hours in my real saddle the day before, riding on a bike saddle was not very comfortable.

Regardless, it was an exhilarating ride. I have not ridden a bike in years. I think it is great exercise, and I was happy to take a few loops around the cemetery with my cousins.

No, my family doesn't have a thing for cemeteries, it just seems that way, lately! There happens to be a neighboring one that provides a quiet, safe place to ride, especially with kids. No roads, cars, or traffic.

By the way, Old Blu is really "The Rocket", who you can read more about here. Thanks mom, for letting me ride your old blue pony!

p.s. I took that last picture, while riding Old Blu, one-handed. Afterward I hit a bump in the path, lost control of the bike, landing in that grass to the left in a Twisted X mess of boots and rusted metal. I kid! I balanced it all just fine. After all, I ride real horses.....I have beyond-rookie steering and picture-taking capabilities!

    that gave me a giggle!

I used to ride my bike everywhere when I was a kid. And although fun one of the first memories to pop into my mind when I think of those bike riding days is an unpleasant one... riding through fields and grassy lots in the summertime, wearing shorts, and feeling the grasshoppers bouncing off my bare legs! Ick!!

  3. I rode my bike a lot as a kid, but only to get from one place to the next. I never got into the whole riding-for-the-sake-of-riding thing.

And I probably would have ended up on the grass if I tried to multi-task while biking!

  4. I love the front basket on Old Blue! I want one because unlike you with your beyond-rookie steering capabilities, I have a hard time riding home from the corner store with a loaf of bread...

  5. That is too funny. Something I've never done, ride my bike with my cowgirl boots on. Love your boots btw, Cute! Do you like that Twisted X brand? I need a new pair, but also like the Ariat Pro Baby.
Loved your Father's Day post. Special times with your dad for sure.

  6. Good post, I hope that ole' Blue was good and didn't buck you off anywhere!
I never had a bike as a kid, only a horse and to get to him to ride I had to walk, a long way!

  7. When I was single and before I knew about how fantastic horses are, I used to bicycle a lot. I took a bicycling vacation in Vermont one time -- one of the best vacations I ever had, and I went alone on that one!! I still have my bike and sometimes (rarely) bring it out for a spin. Whenever I do, I realize I miss it. But the horse has taken precedence!!

  8. {Paint Crazy}~ The basket was SO great! It was big and held a lot of stuff. Not that i filled it, but there was potential. My grandma puts her teacup Yorkie, Sassy, in there...she loves going for a ride!

  9. LOL, Hi Ho Old Blue..... I have a very similar bike, basket and all. Its red and kind of shabby looking paint but is rides nicely, my Honey ordered new tires last year for it and I used to ride it a lot, I should start again.

    If I had a camera I'd share.....sigh.

  10. Oh my goodness! I don't even remember the last time I rode a bike! You totally had me on the taking a spill thing too. Booger!

LOVE the boots! Where do you get them? I've been on a new boot mission for a long time now and can't find *the one*. I also realized after I did my SSC post with the shoes that all my boots are at the back door, not in the picture, because I wear them all the time. hehe

  14. {Patches}~ My riding boots are Twisted X, their Ruff Stock style. You can find them on the Twisted X site (google it) or probably in some of the catalogs, like National Roper's Supply, etc. I special ordered them through a local tack shop. I love them, very comfy (similar to Ariats.)

  16. Actually I could see you taking a spill there, but I also could see that you would probably jump off before you took that spill, since you've had a lot of experience dismounting quickly!
Very cute! Hey, what happened to my sunshine? I'm freezing today!!
