The Canine Nanny Diaries, Part Two

I made it through my puppy nanny weekend! My weekend with Hurley. Yep, he kinda looks like a Sawyer, but he's a Hurley!

I've done quite a bit of dog sitting. None of the dogs I have stayed with have been under 6 months of age. Goodness, it's been a while since I've been immersed in the magic that is puppy-dom. In a nutshell, here is what I learned.

1. You've got to stand a little rain if you want to see a rainbow.

C'mon Nanny, it's just a little sprinkle!

Puppies must do their thing- whether rain, sun, wind, or thunder.....

Let's go Nanny, I got the keys!

2. What goes in, must come out.

If a puppy is chewing on a toy like this, he is most likely eating it. And digesting it. And I have evidence. Well I don't have it, let's just say I saw it.

Therefore, he was relegated to the plastic toys. Which I realize, he was also probably eating.

2. Always stop and smell the flowers.

Nanny, is this the scent of the flower....or just another puppy's piddle spot?

If it's a rock, a smashed Jack-in-the Box antennae topper, an old 7-ll cup, something mushy that you've never seen before and might just possibly be the return of "The Blob", it must go in his mouth. I thought only human toddlers had this problem?

3. Nannies are oodles of fun, but you always miss your mommy and daddy.

I have nothing more to say to this one, except that when I returned the key to his owners after work yesterday, he ran and jumped up and whined at me, like he missed me dearly, even though I'd only left him that morning. Whew!

I really enjoyed my time with Hurley the puppy. He was a good snuggler and he got me outside walking. He also reminded me of what it was to be young, innocent, and curious about life.

Except for those blob things. I'm stayin' far away from those blob things!

  8. lol! I bet you could use a long relaxing weekend just to get over the excitement and lack of sleep and all that exercise from your Nanny job. It's a lot like having a kid, eh? hehe!

Hurley sure is a cutie...and big for a puppy!

  14. {Fern Valley}~ Yes, I would love to have one, but not unless I had property. It's a big responsibility! For now, it's kind of fun to "borrow" someone else's, then return it when I am done! ;)

  16. He's adorable!! To meet a golden is to love a golden in my opinion. They are truly dogs meant for cuddling and playing and loving. Never a mean bone in their furry bodies. Love them...

  17. {C-ing Spots}~ I agree. I have only known two Goldens (Hurley and his predecessor) but I was very impressed with this breed. These two (from different breeders) were/are mellow, smart, loving, and happy, happy, joyful dogs. If I were to get a dog, it would be a very tough choice between a Golden, a Beagle, a Basset, or a labrador. Maybe I'd need one of each? ;)

  18. What an adorable "Hurley"!

We've had 3 Goldens and each of your photos reminded me of our great times with them ... even the puppy years.

We got each one from GR rescue and everyday they tell us thank you with their beautiful eyes. I hope to always have Goldens in my life.

  19. How 'bout an apartment dog for you? You could adopt one from the local ASPCA. Aw come on. You can do it!

BTW my daughter wants a Golden so bad she can taste it! To think she has had 3 boxers in her life and she thinks like that. I think she is planning a coup.

  23. Isn't it amazing when we can borrow other people's animals (and kids!) only to hand them back when we want to eat, sleep and watch television again? :-) I can definitively see you with a Hurley of your own one day!

  24. Be still my heart! I love Hurley. I bet his owners were happy to get home to him.
