Goodness, it's Pink Saturday time again!
While playing with my camera and it's settings the other weekend, I found this bright pink blooming bush behind my horse's pasture. I couldn't resist taking a picture of him eating his hay through the branches.
At first, I didn't know what kind of bush it was. But because it was blooming, I had a feeling it was some kind of berry. I guessed salmon berry. This bright pink bloom looked so lonely out on that dainty brown brown branch.
A week later, after I put my horse away and fed him, I headed over to check out the blooms again. The brown stems had filled with green leaves.
And many of the blooms were now open....
And some had already lost their delicate petals. Sure enough, a green, soon to be sun-ripened salmon berry was hiding underneath!
However, somebody was not happy watching me play with my camera, taking pictures of pink blooms just outside the fence line. Somebody was suddenly more interested in what I was doing than eating his dinner.
But oh no, My Boy wasn't interested in those pink blooms. He was eyeing something else.
I don't know what to call them, other than horse brownies? Horse tiramisu? Horse cheesecake? To him, these juicy yellow weeds are the ultimate dessert!
Pony Girl, will you pwease pwick me some dandewions???
As I continued my photographing, I kept pausing to pick him giant handfuls of those dandelions, tossing them over the fence. He followed me all along the fence line. How could I resist?
Never mind that my hands were tinted yellow and sticky from their juice. I guess this is what you do for a horse you adore. Too bad there wasn't a "Yellow Saturday" out there somewhere, I'd have a whole other post!
Also, since it fits so perfectly with today's theme, I want to thank Jan over at her blog, Jan's Place, for passing this lovely award on to me, covered in pink roses! I feel honored to have received it!
In closing, a big thank you to Beverly over at How Sweet the Sound for hosting this pink party every weekend!
Have a great weekend everyone!

ReplyDeleteHow absolutely wonderful! Beverly sure knew what she was doing when she created a place for all of us "pinkies" to congregate and share our "pinkness".
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you. I hope you find yourself surrounded by those you love, good food, and a gentle peace in your ♥. We don't need to be a mother to know a mother's life. After all we all started out with a mom, didn't we?☺
I never heard of salmon berries. Are they edible?
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! This is my favorite post of the day! He is darling. What a sweet, beautiful guy! I'm sure there are many people with lawns that would love to donate some "tiramisu" to him! The salmon berry blooms were gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photography! It looks so nice where you live and I enjoyed the pictures of your horse. Welcome to Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty pink flower. I have never heard of salmon berries. I also posted about dandelions a couple of posts ago. I am so pleased that it is dandelion season again. Though they are weeds they are so pretty in their yellow form.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!

ReplyDeletePink and yellow always brighten up a landscape... and let's not forget your boy.
ReplyDeleteWell, pink and blue are covered!.. You could start a new wave.. and hostess an official Yellow Thursday! Personally I wouldn't mind a Purple Wednesday... or how 'bout Peachy Friday?!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday, and have a great weekend!!
The salmon berry is so lovely and I don't think I've ever seen one before! Your boy is so handsome - I love reading about him. Happy Pink Saturday!

Love the picture of My Boy at the fence! They are so funny aren't they. You are the best mommy!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, The photos of My Boy eyeing the dandewions(hehe) made me smile. The salmon berry flowers are so pretty. Do you eat the salmon berries?
ReplyDeleteDo horses eat them?
Yep, you know that My Boy tells all his friends, "I got Pony Girl wrapped around my hoof. She'd do anything for me, 'cause I'm just so darn cute!"
:D

I love the pictures. My favorite is the first one. Your horse is the perfect background for the pink flowering tree. Have a beautiful PINK day...Julie
ReplyDeleteThat new camera of yours is taking some beautiful pictures, or maybe it's the photographer! Have a great weekend, I hope you get to take a ride!!!
ReplyDeleteMy horses love the dandelions too. I like to lead them around to all the dandelion spots to have them eat them. Better than trying to eliminate them by hand (or by chemical), or letting them all go to seed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday Have a great Mother's Day ~ Susan
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I love the pink! Picking dandelions huh? Oh what we will do for the love of a good horse!
ReplyDeleteOMG- green salmon berries!!! It must be getting close to summer!!! YAYAYAYAY!!! I used to ride through the bush here and pick salmon berries as I went. You have to get them REALLY ripe because they are a bit sour/bitter as it is so to get any sweetness out of them they have to nearly falling off the vine. The huckleberry plants up here are all greened up too. My childhood trail riding memories include a lot of huckleberry bushes too. Though...I have to say that eating a lot of berries while way out in the bush far from home has its down side as well...
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are fabulous! Your close up green berry and the flower above especially. I cracked up at your My Boy begging for dandylions pic and comment. Spoiled boy!
You should bring that handsome horse over to my house! I have a whole yard full of horse brownies!
ReplyDeleteGo Ty!!!!
Pony Girl, your boy is such a dandy! Bring him down to San Antonio, I've got lot's of dandelions for him!

ReplyDeleteOops, I left a reply while being logged in as Paint Girl's from her computer :)...Leah~ As Chelsi said, they are edible. They can be sour, you've got to get them ripe. And often, the birds get them first. Like you Chelsi, I grew up eating huckleberries and salmon berries! They are pretty popular in damp places like here in the northwest. I think my mom even made a huckleberry pie once! :)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a salmon berry before! Can you eat them? They sure are beautiful in their flowering stage! Such a handsome horse!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday and Happy Mother's Day Ponygirl!
I've said it before but your Appy boy is just so handsome. He reminds me of a Breyer horse I once had as a kid. His coloring is a perfect example of the Appaloosa breed.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots too! Are you having fun with your camera?
Great pics! Love the one with the flowers and him in the background!
ReplyDeleteFantastic series of captures! I totally enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDelete{DVM's Wife's Life}~ I am loving the new camera!! I'm a little frustrated with learning to use some of the settings...as soon as I'm done with the school year, I'm makin' it my no. 1 mission to either take a class or really start studying up! Thanks for the compliments on my boy. I wish I could see the Breyer model you had, I've never seen one like him!
ReplyDeleteI love to peak at your blog because I love to see the ponies/horses.
ReplyDeleteJoyce
Beautiful pink photos! Love the close ups of the salmon berry blossoms. I don't think I get those in my neck of the woods. Just A LOT of blackberries! Hope you're having a fun weekend & getting to spend some QT with your gorgeous pony!
ReplyDeleteAll of those photos are amazing! What a lovely blog you have. Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeletePretty place and lucky horse.
ReplyDeleteHave fun loving that equine of yours.
