Happy 26th Birthday, Dad!

Today is mine and Paint Girl's dad's birthday. He is a special guy, our dad. Always there to talk to, to listen, to offer advice, to hang out with.... to pick me up and drive me home when the roads are too icy.

I'm very blessed to have such a good relationship with my father. I know he didn't get a little son to go fishing with. But I know he loves his daughters more than anything and wouldn't trade them for the world. Besides, as little girls we liked to fish, too! As you can see, I'm losing the "BIG ONE" by posing for the camera. You can barely see Paint Girl behind me, but obviously she's focusing on reeling in some dinner!

To this day, Paint Girl still likes to go fishing.

I love this picture of the three of us at the beach. My dad always had the coolest hippie hair ever. It went through some totally groovy phases, man. That outfit I'm wearing, on the right? That was my most favorite outfit ever. But that's another story. Notice that my dad is wearing the aviators this time, and not Paint Girl!

Here we are riding many, many years ago, at our family reunion. Pictured left to right is me, our dad, Paint Girl, and her other half. I have no idea how we all ended up wearing matching tank tops. Despite my family's affinity for coordinating outfits, it was not planned. I am fairly certain that was my dad's last ride on a horse. He needs two knee replacement surgeries.

After that, he actually hopes to get a horse of his own someday and get back in the saddle.

Happy, happy, birthday, Papa. We love you and wish we could be there to spend it with you!

Hugs from Your Girls,

Pony Girl & Paint Girl

  3. Awe, that's such a sweet post. I don't think I even have photos of my dad on his horse and we all (seven of us) had a horse to ride! No one was a photographer and we were busy riding I guess. You're very fortunate. My hubby needs knee replacements too! He won't do it though because he's in the orthropedic field and knows there's a lot of pain that's involved. Great your dad is willing to get them.

  14. So....your dad is riding Major Bonanza (George) that day and by DEFAULT! I was extremely hung over that day and could NOT get on my horse...nor could we leave him by himself while the other horses went out. Your dad rode in my stead...I had a few reservations about how George would be with your dad...but decided that I was not going to worry about if he went off or not. I know he really wanted to ride with "his girls" that day and George must have known he had a very special "passenger" that day because your dad said he was a perfect Genlteman!!! Paint girls other half was riding Stormy my appy gelding you were on that "jiggy" horse but I don't know who Paintgirl is riding??? I miss George very much...but Jesse has filled my heart!!!

  21. Great tribute to your dad. I often wished I had memories other then monster ones of my father. My mother basically had him leave when I was just 3 (he beat her). I saw him 3 times since then and wished I had not. Cherish the family times you have!
take care Paint and Pony girls and the rest of your clan.. smiles!
