My Turkey Time

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I had a great time with my family.
My dad and I took Rosie the dog for her morning romp. She looked for bunnies and wild turkeys.

I kid, I kid- no wild turkeys, but there was evidence of bunnies and she was very excited.

Back at the house, Bogie and Lily the cats were snuggled up and as lazy as could be. I'd hope for a little more snooze-time myself, but there was plenty of family to see and errands to run to keep me busy.

One day, Mom and I went out to see her horse, Dusty. She had to fetch him out of the gelding pasture. It was nice to watch a horse take haltering so nicely. Maybe the Dustbuster needs to give My Boy a few pointers!?

After I got my new Muck books, I passed my old ones on to my mother. She quickly regretted forgetting them this day as the pasture was getting rather muddy near the gate.

I also got to meet the horse my aunt is leasing. A few weekends ago I told you that we went to look at an older gelding to purchase for my aunt, but that he didn't work out. She decided to lease the Arabian gelding, Albert, that she is taking lessons on at the barn.

I was very impressed at how well my aunt is doing with horses. She just started riding and taking lessons this past year and I can see that her confidence has grown!

Isn't he a handsome boy? He was so kind, too!

My mom and I did some Parelli groundwork with Dusty. At her old stable, most of the boarders did natural horsemanship and she practiced quite a bit of it with him. I also got to ride Dusty. He is soft and responsive in the snaffle bit and moving off of my legs. A little trouble getting him to take and let go of the bit when bridling, but nothing a little patient work can't solve. This horse hadn't been ridden in a bit for over three years, so he's basically green in the bridle.

Bye Dusty, thanks for the ride!

Rosie wasn't very happy to see me leave. She whines and cries and yelps when I arrive, then she looks mopey as I'm loading up my car.

I'll see you at Christmas, Rosebud!

  2. That first picture of the dog and the autum leaves is so pretty, I just love it. And the grey Arabian is a very distinguished fellow indeed, and he has such kindness in his eyes. Maybe your aunt will end up with him? He's just lovely. It looks like your Thanksgiving weekend with your family was nice and relaxing, I'm very happy for you. Why does the poochie cry when you leave? He must love his Pony Girl...

  3. Albert looks a lot like the dapple grey arabian mare I had! Her name was Annie...and while she was a little more round than Albert, she had some similar features. He's very handsome! Is he arab-y? After Annie, I swore I would never own another arabian...sorry arab loves!

  4. I'm glad you had such a good Thanksgiving!

Oooh, that muddy field. My horses would have all rolled in it already. Dusty's head shot is very nice!

Albert is gorgeous! He has such a kind, soft eye and I LOVE dapples.

  6. Awwww...was Rosebud your dog at one time, or do the two of you just share a really close bond??

Albert definitely sounds like a keeper, and what a looker too...lol!!

I am LOVING what you have done with your blog for the holidays! Very festive! :)

  7. KT~ That was a stallion owned by my great-uncle, many years ago. My cousin K over at Saddle Mnt. rider should be able to identify him, I can't remember his name.

Palomino Girl~ Albert did not seem Arab-y in the least! He stood calmly in the cross ties and worked well at a walk and jog with no longing before. He's really mellow, a sweet horse!

Melanie~ Rosie was not mine, but I was with my family when we found her at a shelter and adopted her, several Cmas's ago now. I was often around to visit my parents and would go on beach walks with her and she knew when I came, it was walk-time! She just really likes me. My parents joke that all of their animals like me better than them! ;)

  8. Oh, poor Rosie, she needs you near! I'll bet your parents would like it too.

Three of our four are close to our home now, and if our son comes this way life would have come full circle.

  9. My first lesson horse when i was like 8yo was a dapple grey Arab gelding. I started lessons riding English, but soon moved to a different operation and continued learning on a buckskin Quarter horse named Doc, riding Western. And its been Western ever since. I occasionally ride English when I get a wild hair for something different. But nothing beats an old Billy Cook roper as far as comfort. Lol!
