New Specs For Autumn

What I love about the fall season is how it forces you to really look at it through a different lens. To find beauty in even the wettest, most annoying, frustrating parts of it.

Like the muddy muck boots.

And My Boy's dirt-caked hooves.

And biting wind blowing through my hair and my pony's mane......

........while threatening the cedar trees holding on tightly to their branches, hoping to keep them from becoming scattered bones at their base.

Each leaf is a piece of art.

Even those that fall and stick onto everything in the yard.

Each watery ditch a cacophony of colors.

Each Rhododendron-munching Aussie a bundle of autumn energy.

Bundle your autumn energy.

Find beauty in the little things, despite the darkness, the wetness, and the mud. Oh, the mud.

Cherish the mud.

hee hee.

Happy Friday the 13th! I have never been happier to see a weekend arrive!

  1. I enjoy your photos so much! What kind of camera and lens do you use?

  2. I'd be interesting in knowing how you've modified the regular Blogger templates so your photos are shown larger size and in better resolution - I'm becoming increasingly dissatisfied with how my photos translate to my blog, but otherwise I like the Blogger platform.

  4. One of my hay guys says you have to find the parts of each season you can enjoy, because complaining about something you can't change just wastes your time and energy and ruins your attitude. So I focus on how allergy-free my winters are rather than how hard it is to get through the snow with a wheelbarrow of poop.

Great pics. We didn't get mcuh fall-like weather; it went from summer to winter and all the leaves went in a couple of days. Now we are having weird warm weather, but the landscape is pretty bare.

  6. Please be careful with letting that pup munch Rhodies...rhododenrons are highly toxic to dogs, horses, goats, and I think even humans. Not a good thing. :(

  10. Those boots in the mud and the wet that isn't all mud and sitting water, looks oh so familiar. Great photo and love the words used to describe them. You are so creative!

  11. This is so timely for me as on Wednesday I was really down because of the weather and the mud, but at least this year I can wash my horse's legs off - last year we didn't even have a tap. And yes, I do live in a beautiful part of England, and need to remember to count my blessings.

  12. It's only as I have gotten a little older that I have learned to appreciate fall for all it has to offer instead of just using as a time to dread the oncoming winter. Love the picture of the blowing mane!

  13. You ALMOST...made me sad that I will miss the mud with your beautiful photos and story! Hee Hee! Yesterday's ride was in the high desert in Joshua Tree National Park. 10 miles of 75 degree sun and gentle breeze...this is the life!

  14. I'm gonna find it real hard to cherish the mud! I'm already sick of the rain and hoping for some snow. I was so excited for Fall and then it took a turn on me and went rainy, gloomy, and yucky. Why does it always have to DO that!

  15. {Striving for Savvy}~ I use a Nikon D40, with the lens that came with it 18-55mm and I also have a 55-200mm zoom that I love, I can get good bokeh with it, if I can hold it still, LOL! I love my Nikon!

{Latigo Liz}~ Rhodies are toxic and Sadie was just grabbing that branch while running through them on a playing rampage with her "brother" Bailey, she didn't eat them. Thanks for the reminder, though!

  18. What is with those pictures- they are amazing! And I know, the mud, the mud....but I think early spring mud is worse than fall mud (the ground is so much more saturated)....enjoy your fall! !

  19. Did you really take those photos? You are brilliant! Gosh!

  20. You should be a professional photographer and get paid for these wonderful photographs...or better yet, have them displayed in a gallery somewhere. Such talent!!

  21. {Unknown}~ Yes I really took them, LOL! ;) The green garden ball is in Paint Girl's yard....see if you can find my reflection in it....

  23. I am having a tough time cherishing the mud, but I just love the leaves! Your photos are wonderful - especially the Rhodie-munching-Aussie! Too cute! I also love how you capture your pony's mane blowing in the wind. That photo just feels like fall...I can hear the wind. Thanks for helping us all to take time and look around.
