In Her Heart

Paint Girl has been very sad that her "angel" cat, Domino, has been missing.

As I drove through Paint Girl's neighborhood today, I scanned every yard and ditch, hoping I'd see that white and tiger-striped spotted cat sitting in someone else's yard. I would stop, call him, he would walk up to me, I'd pick him up, put him in my car, and take him home to her.

As I groomed My Boy, let him graze in the field, picked rocks from his pasture, and cleaned his shed, I kept looking around the property for some sign of the white cat. I wanted to find him.

It didn't happen.

But I did find this heart-shaped rock in My Boy's pasture. A rare find. And oddly symbolic considering the circumstances.

Paint Girl, don't give up hope that Domino will come home. Stranger things have happened in the world of felines.

But no matter what the outcome, although it feels broken now, know that in time, your heart will stop aching.

And it will be there, in your heart, that your angel kitty will forever hold a place.

  1. I had one car that was gone for over a month. We found her over five miles away, and she had to cross over several hills and a freeway to get where she was! She had lost about ten pounds-( she was chunky to begin with) but other than that, she was ok. I hope your sisters kitty comes back to her too!

  2. I was thinking of Domino today and hoping that I'd get to the computer and hear that he had come home. The hardest part of having a cat go missing is the not knowing part...it is SO, SO hard to not know where they are, if they are hurt or if they are trying to make their way home. My heart goes out to your sister.

As I said to her my Rowdy cat used to wander off ,an right about the time I was giving up hope he would stroll up to the house like he was expected. I so hope theat it works that way for Paint Girl. Saying a little prayer for her and Domino's safe return

  6. Awwh...so sad for your sister... we lost our 10 year old dog like that..he just disappeared..whether he got hit by a car, or the coyotes got him, or someone just wanted him for themselves! He was so beautiful! I always like to picture him sitting beside someone who loves him as much as we did 'cause we never did find out what happened! I pray that Domino comes home to Paint Girl safely.

PS the heart-shaped rock is a message.. you know!

  8. Oh dear... we have animals that go missing for weeks and then wander back... not sure if PaintGirls home is in a built-up area, but cats are resilient creatures. Fingers crossed for a happy ending!!

  9. Beautiful post. I talked to Paint Girl on my way home from work tonight, and it breaks my heart that she is so distraught over him being gone. I know exactly how she feels. I have been there several times, but fortunatly mine have come home. You think about them and worry every minute. HUGS.

  10. When I lost Oliver I went out and called every 2 hours, 24 hours around the clock for 3 days. Then he came home in the middle of the night all by himself!!! Her kitty could still come home. Have they called all the shelters and vet clinics???

  11. Oh PG~M, that is so sweet!! My heart breaks for your sis, if anyone in this world deserves to have the joy of ALL of their animals safe and sound it's her...I really hope Domino is found...Last September my mini Australian Shepherd ran away, and 27 days later I found her walking across my road mot even a mile away!! Somebody had her, because she had been groomed...I really hope that's the case for Paint Girl!

  19. It is so sad and heartbreaking when an animal goes missing like that. Our Sonya (cat) was gone for a week one time, but came home. I thought for sure she was gone. Love the photos of your kitty -- I sure hope he comes home.....

  20. Has she called the local shelters? I know that one of our barn cats went missing for 2 weeks before we thought to call. Sure enough there was a cat at the shelter matching his description! The little bugger had gotten his collar off one way or another. The shelter knew the cat was not a stray because of how well cared for he was so they just held on to him and were very happy to hear from us, even though it took 2 weeks. I hope your sister gets a happy ending.

  21. I had a cat that was gone for one whole month. It was right around halloween too, and I feared the worst. But he returned! all skinny and meowing and yowling like crazy. I had another friend have her cat turn up SEVEN MONTHS LATER!! I hope this is what will happen with Domino! That he returns safe and sound. It is too hard on your heart to have them gone.

  24. I know the feeling. I've had my barn cat disappear for weeks at a time and feared the worst. Then all of the sudden she'll show up looking for food and a quiet place to sleep and rest up from her adventures. I hope that will be the case with Domino.
