Some Bunny Is Saying Goodbye

Funny how fallin' feels like flyin'...... for a little while.

~Crazy Heart Jeff Bridges/Colin Farrell

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post.

Pony Girl Rides Again is going on an indefinite hiatus.

It takes time and energy for me to blog. I work hard at it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Right now, I have new projects and things going on in my life that I need to focus on. Sometimes I feel like this laptop sucks the energy and hours right out of me. I intend to log on for a few minutes and before I know it, an hour or two flies by. I've already slowed down my posts to a couple of times a week. But I am still spending too much time online.

I may be back someday. Or now and then. Maybe. Never say never. I don't want to commit either way. I want to see how I feel after a significant break. I need to find some balance.

I have truly enjoyed this journey with all of you. I appreciate those of you that have taken the time to comment and say hello, share advice on questions I had about my horse, commiserate with me on a particular issue, or sent me emails and shared your stories with me. Many of you have been part of my blogging world since the very beginning- ironically, almost two years ago to the day. I'll never forget that feeling, of hitting "publish post" and sending my thoughts out into the world for the first time. Wondering if someone would ever care to read about what I was doing or had to say.

Sniff.

This is harder than I thought. This blog is my baby and has been a major focus in my life since I started it. I am keeping my Zazzle.com photography site and will continue to add photos there.

Pony Girl is riding again.....only this time, it's off into the sunset.

Peace, love, blessings, and happy trails, everyone!!

p.s. Happy Easter! My childhood plush bunny "Bundles" is lovingly featured in this post.

  1. Good for You!
    I understand the time investment.
Change of focus is good. It takes courage to make a decision. Best wishes and kindest regards.

  2. {Cowgirl Rae}~ Thanks! There is a time investment. I love it so don't get me wrong, I always felt like it was time well-spent. But recently, I realize other areas of my life are neglected because I spend too much time on the computer. Scary how technology has changed our lives, in both good and bad ways, eh?

  3. You gotta do what ya gotta do! We will all miss you though, oh wait, I see you all the time!

But seriously, I will miss your blog. I have you to thank, among others, for helping me with that big decision to blog and to help me get it all going. It does take a lot of time, and I have also cut back, but more so because of my job. It was so easy when I didn't work! Blogging can sometimes be a full time job!! But I like blogging and we have met so many wonderful people!

Good luck to you, my dear sis, even though I see you all the time!

  4. Pony Girl, awww, will be sad to see you go but I understand about the time factor. With your new ventures you have a lot on your plate and of course you need more time with My Boy the beautiful Appaloosa! Oh, I hope his sort spot is getting better!!!
I hope you do stop back in from time to time to let us know how your and your pony are!
    Take care, happy trails!!!
    hugs....

  5. Awwww, your bunny was dearly loved when you were a child. I love that you've kept it all these years.
Bundles looks a little sad that you're taking some time away from blogging. *sniff*

I'll miss you a whole bunch, but I do understand where you're coming from, too. Computer time can easily turn into a vacuum with our time and energy.
I realized about 2 weeks ago that I was visiting at least 50-60 blogs every few days. That's a lot of blogs where I always try to leave behind a meaningful comment when I visit.

I've since realized, that no matter how touched I am by all the folks who visit me, that I just can't visit everyone's blogs on a consistent basis.
I do still have a favorite list of between 20-30 blogs that I do try to visit on a regular basis, but I'm learning to not be so hard on myself for not always returning the kindness of fellow bloggers who are kind enough to visit me and leave such nice comments for me.

It can be quite the juggling act, for sure. But, for me it's still lots of fun and very satisfying. But if it ever starts to feel overwhelming and full of pressure and lacking fun, I'll take a hiatus, too.

I hope you will still keep in touch at least a couple times a month, so we know you're ok, and My Boy, too. I've grown quite fond of that handsome spotted boy of yours.
I also would love to know how your Saddle Seat lessons develop over time, too. I'm so proud of you for challenging yourself and learning new skills and hope that you keep up with that, if you're enjoying it.

Just know that I'm thinking of you, my friend. And please give that sweet little 'Bundle' of bunny love a snuggle. (((((hugs)))))

  6. Good Luck to you! Pop in every once in awhile! i know what you mean about the laptop sucking the life out of you!

  7. I understand how you feel. I had to leave photography for a year, the Bridezilla's almost killed me. Here's the advice I've wanted to tell you but was too chicken. Get your boy tested for lymes. Go to SmartPac and order their highest antioxidant formula and give it to him twice a day and watch him come back.

  8. Happy Trails to you,
    until we meet agin.
    Happy Trails to you,
    Keep smiling until then.
Weather the trail is fair or sunny,
You'll always be in the money.
Happy Trail to you 'till we meet again....

    ReplyDelete
  9. We will miss you and My Boy. Good luck in your adventures and let us know what you are up to once in a while

    ReplyDelete
  10. {Mais}~ Thanks for the advice. I don't think we have Lyme disease here. I will ask my vet about it when she's out for spring vaccinations, though! ;)

  11. I know exactly what you are saying about the time commitment. It has become quite overwhelming for me too. I can't believe that you have blogged for two years! It seems I only just met you. I do hope you will be able to post every now and again. I will miss you.
    hugs

    ReplyDelete
  12. If at all possible please do post an occasional hello. Your blog will be missed, but I fully understand the commitment issues. Happy Easter ... and I love your bunny!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I totally understand! I haven't been blogging too much lately, just too much stuff going on and I also get sucked in for hours when I sit down at the computer. You & your wonderful photography will be missed! Hope to "see" you again sometime =)

  14. I will be sad to not see your posts but am happy that you are taking care of yourself and keeping the important things front and center in your life. I think we all get to a point where we realize that although fun and fulfilling in some ways, an on-line persona cannot (should not?) replace our real world commitments and interactions. Enjoy what comes....and we'll always welcome you back to the blog-o-sphere, should you choose to visit again!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, Life is short girl. Live it to the fullest. One of our favorite sayings that can be applied to many aspects of life is "Ride it like ya own it, and drive it like ya stole it."

All the best in your life PG. You'll be in a lot of thoughts and prayers, all over the world.

Happy Trails, until we do see you and My Boy (and the rest of the crew) again!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh no I am going to miss you! I know what you mean and I have thought the same thing at times. I have slowed down also since I became ill last summer with that staph infection. I will also miss my favorite Appaloosa and all about him. You take a break and hopefully you will be back one day. Take care of yourself and your boy!
    Best of luck! Karen

  17. We wil miss you ,your wonderful photos! and of course, your beautiful horse . Come back anytime ! If you don't and life takes you on a different path , I will take this chance to say thanks, and I am so glad I got to "know" you a little through blogging

    ReplyDelete
  18. Your blog is one of my absolute favorites. I don't comment much, but I have followed it since I found you and My Boy. Must be an Appy thing! ;)

Enjoy your break! Until you venture into your blog again, I wish you the best! Give My Boy a hug and a kiss from all of us bloggers!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had fun following your blog. If you ever make it to Montana, stop by and say hi!

  20. I will miss all your photos and stories, but I completely understand the computer-time-suck problem. I live it here too. Riding, painting, teaching, Maizie, Brian...and blogging...what is left?!? I still hope to one day organize a blogging friends ride so...when we are 60 or 70 years old you may get an email from me to go riding!!!
You were one of the first people to ever comment on my blog and I am so grateful!!!
Enjoy your time...love up your sweet boy. He deserves your time. These silly computers aren't as deserving as our sweet boys! Real live horses are the whole deal.
Good luck!!! I am so happy to have "met" you.

Oh, I'm sad - I just recently discovered your blog and have really enjoyed and admired it. I sure do understand your need to make a conscious choice about how and where you spend precious time and energy.

I am just beginning the blogging journey, and your blog felt like a light on the path. Your voice is real and your photography is beautiful and evocative.

Good Luck as you focus on the other gifts you have to share. I hope you do return someday, somehow...

  28. Good wishes and God speed. I have only been following a short time but have enjoyed it.My posts are getting longer in between and I have to wonder if it is worth the time too. Have fun, most importantly. Grab it whenever you can because it doesn't last, but it will always return. A bientot!

    Jazzy ones at that!

  30. Cute bunny too, love the "do"!

  31. {Sares}~ Isn't that funny? I have no idea how long it's been braided like that! Probably 30 years, LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I understand completely my sweet girl how you feel. Ever since I started my job 16 months ago, I feel like it is sucking the life out of me lately. Different schedule totally. Rethinking my life and how I spend my spare time. No more staying up until 2 or 3 on the computor. As much as I love reading about everyones life, I need to slow down and get my life back on track. Why is it that the thing we are so passionate about goes by the wayside. That would be my beloved copperpony, and he deserves all the love and attention I can give. So I am cutting way back on my computor time too, getting my health back on track, taking time to enjoy the treasures in my life. Hugs to you, and I love you.It takes alot of courage to do what you are doing. I will miss you, but you are my daughter, so I will see you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. OHHHH PG I will MISS you and all of your fabulous adventures!!! I do understand the pull in the other direction!! Much luck to you and sending hugs and prayers your way!!

Hopefully we will hear from you again someday!! ;(

    ReplyDelete
  34. You will be missed! But I understand...my blog has been neglected for a while now. I used to be daily, now I am lucky to post once a week. I am so busy, but I hope you come back one day!

    ReplyDelete
  35. We do understand how our computers can suck our time and energy... I've done the same as many other bloggers, spending a day every few weeks catching up with all my blogger friends, sometimes visiting over 50 blogs in a day and leaving thoughtful, meaningful comments. With spring and summer almost here, there is just too much maintenance work to be done outdoors and horses and dogs to spend time with, to be sitting inside on the computer, so my blogging time is going to be cut back also.

I have days where I want to chuck it all. It seems when I feel this way, as long as I stay away from my computer for a few days, then I'm ok to jump back into blogging and surfing. Sometimes we just need to give ourselves those little breaks to keep it all in perspective

Whatever you decide, you will be missed around these parts and we hope to see you back every now and then! :-)

(And whenever I get that full-time job, I know for sure my blogging will take a huge back seat!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'll miss reading your blog, but understand. I will pop in and look at your photos. I have always enjoyed them so much. Bye for now.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I know that everyone that blogs understands this. You will be missed.

  38. I joined your fan-club on Zazzle...BTW - I've really enjoyed this blog, but I totally understand the time crunch thing. :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. {Ddreslough}~ Oh thanks so much for joining the Zazzle fan club, I have two fans now, hee hee! ;) I do hope to return to blogging again sometime in the future....don't give up on me.

  40. I can so relate to this! I've decided that once every two weeks is about all I can swing, because I do get consumed with it as well.

Blessings to you and you seek balance. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts!

  41. I hope a Hiatus will do you some good. I know writing is so easy for some people and hard for others. I myself couldn't imagine not writing.

  42. Oh I am so sad to hear this, as I love your blog, and you were one of the first ones I came across. I hope we will keep hearing from you, as I will miss you. All love to MB. xx

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm so sad to hear this, I feel like I'm losing a friend, but at the same time, I understand where you are coming from. For me, right now, blogging is a wonderful way to spend my time, but in the future I hope to be able to spend that time in my (currently nonexistent) garden, and riding my horse. I hope you will come back and visit us soon, but most of all I'm glad that you are happy and enjoying life.

    Happy trails, Jayke

  44. Thanks for visiting - Happy Easter to you and yours. It is amazing how when you first start blogging you can't wait to have somebody follow and then it gets busy.... I still enjoy it and try to fit it in as much as I can... You take care and always feel free to stop in and visit... love your appy "My Boy"

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am one of the people who would come by now and then and just enjoy the "horse talk"....I had them for years and miss them like the dickens! I understand why you need to do this, I hope you and your Appy can find some good trails....take care! Sandy

  46. I'm happy to know that you are going to put your wonderful creative talents to use in the "real" world. Good luck, my friend. I'll miss your blog but know that the world has not heard the last of you.

  47. I hear you. I used to keep up two blogs, but now just one as an indulgence to my horsey side.

    Take care and ride on!

  48. pony girl i am sad! but i understand. you and paint girl are some of my faves. do you do facebook? thank you for commenting on my blog. i appreciate you. i haven't been blogging as consistantly either and i understand. you know that you can turn your blogs into a book don't you? there is a company out there...that is what i plan to do since i began blogging to slow my life down a bit since dad died. good luck. if you lived closer i would hire you to farm sit! you would be awesome! ; )

  49. Thanks for sharing the past years! You've done so brilliantly. Now it's time to care of yourself, and no one knows what will happen in the future... Good luck on this new chapter in life!!!

  50. Aw, when I saw the post title I kinda thought so :(

I totally understand what you mean though, sometimes it seems like I spend way too much time blogging... either posting on my own or reading others. Due to some life stuff I've had to slow WAY down lately.

I sure hope this just ends up being a hiatus though, not a permanent retirement, your blog is SO good! :) Or if you shut down your blog I hope I still "see you around" posting comments somewhere.

I saw a comment a little while ago on someone else's blog about blogs having 'short life spans' and when I googled it the average life span of a blog is less than 2 years! Kinda funny when you see some of the friendships that develope via blogging.

Anyway, in case I don't "see" you again - best of luck in everything and a last big old scratch for My Boy!

    ((hugs))

    ReplyDelete
  51. {cdncowgirl}~ Oh, I will be around commenting and visiting blogs! Scary thing, not working on my own post is actually freeing up more time for me to do that- so far I am not really staying away from the computer, LOL! I think I'm going to start a simple, private blog just to keep in touch with my horsey family members, and you will certainly see me, My Boy, and get updates in some of their posts, too. I do truly hope to return to blogging, I just need to sort some things out. Interesting about the lifespan of a blog....but it does seems true, at least for bloggers like us who don't have "sponsors/ads" or get "paid" to do it. I've seen other bloggers announce they are quitting for various reasons, and some just fade away and never post again..... and you're left wondering what the heckle happened to them. Which I find odd. I could never do that without saying goodbye. Thanks for your support and I hope we "meet again" in blogland! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi there! Wow you are really going to be missed girl by many....I had to scroll WAY down! I was by earlier but didn't have time to comment! I was really in shock but I totally get what you're saying. Many hours have passed being on the computer preparing posts and yours is so nicely done that it had to take some time to do. I've often thought about not blogging anymore and I could not just disappear either without saying goodbye. I have really cut down on my posts and that has helped get me through the blog block but it just is so time consuming. My back starts to ache the minute I sit down in this chair anymore. I need to change the look of mine and update sidebar photos but I just don't want to lose things and take the time and have to start all over again.

I just realized I need your address too before you go on hiatus. I have one large painting and two books (the ones I described during our conversation about Twilight). They came in last week when I was gone. I hope you don't mind that they're paperbacks but I thought they would be lighter to ship. The painting is larger than 11X14 .....20X24 and it's the gallery kind of canvas you don't have to frame so all the edges are painted as well. Hope you like it and not too big for your ranch house someday! I'm sure you will not be surprised which one I chose to do. I cannot believe your Boy has that spot coming back again either! Boo!

Well I hope you enjoy your break. Getting back to basics is a good thing....life gets too complicated and we think we have to buy into it....no, we don't. How are the handmade items doing? I somehow missed the name of the blog to visit now and then.
    Take care!
    Luanne

  53. Dear Pony Girl,

I understand well the toll of blogging, especially for us perfectionists. It's not only the posting, it's maintaining relationships, visiting those that have commented, emailing, networking... it is a world of it's own. Many bloggers are taking long breaks or setting strict boundaries.
I wish you continued success in all your endeavors. Hope our 'trails' cross again.

  59. While I'm very sad to hear this news, I can totally understand. Blogging takes a lot of time and effort (especially when you post beautiful pictures!)...

I hope you pop in once in a while to give us a bit of an update. Maybe we'll see a pic or two of you on your sis's blog? (hint, hint! lol)

    ReplyDelete
  60. You will be greatly missed!!! I am one of the lucky ones that will still get to hear about your adventures but I am still sad to see you leave your blog:( Enjoy your freedom...I really do know how you feel!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I understand--I've slowed down a lot, too--but always remember you can blog as little or much as you want!! It's your blog. Hope to see you back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  62. You will be missed! But, you can always come back...
It is true that it takes a lot of time, and it makes sense to take a break once in a while. Enjoy your time away, and check in with us once in a while!

    ReplyDelete
  63. OH!
I am late again...and I popped on over to re read your post about the lack of clean(or any)stable facilities...cause -believe it or not...am posting right now, with the heading of "Attn: Pony Girl"...my timing is really OFF!

I still will post it I think, hope you don't mind... just wanted to show you the totally funny photo of a "Dual Purpose horse trough".

Well, sweet girl with a beautiful horse and lovely horsey family. You are doing what you are called to do right now and for as much fun as we have had reading of the on and off adventure of horse ownership and life in general- We all do understand!

YOU will be Greatly Missed, but we all know that you're' there...maybe peeping in on us sometimes, but mainly loving life away from the computer screen images...you got real Live-"real time" ones, that are a callin' you out to play.

Loving you from here and praying your trails lead to sweet, fresh times of joy!

  64. Pony Girl, that yellow bunny looks very sad! I will miss you and the spotted pill very much. When I first discovered blogs devoted to horses, yours was pne of the first and it delighted me immeasurably. The writing is smart and funny and the pictures are terrific. I can see you put a lot of time into it--your blog goes above and beyond your horse! Thanks for being such a great blogfriend and for all the inspiration. (Forever will I love your story about how you found your horse and your family helped you get him.) You are a natural writer. I hope you write a book and I see it in the bookstores one day. I'll miss you! And I hope that sarcoid gets the heck out of town!!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. It won't be the same without you and the adventures of the sweet spotted pill! I know I'm supposed to say I understand how busy you are and wish you all the luck in the future - and I do, but darn it, PG, we're really going to miss you a lot! Please stop by and visit me - I've had to cut back too on my blogging but there would be a big hole in my life without all of you guys! Big hug to you and that handsome pony!

    ReplyDelete
  66. All the best!!! You will be missed, and I hope you return at some point when you feel you have your balance back and can manage the blog with less time . . . even if it's just to give short capsules of info every month or so. Balance is important. It is very good that you recognized when the balance was out-of-kilter and that you are wise enough to know it's not a healthy situation. Good for you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Best wishes...I had to take time off, due to health reasons, but I realized in that time just how much time I was using on the computer too. neglecting a lot of the things I needed to be doing around the farm and home. I was up late posting when I needed to be sleeping, and then getting up too late! I LOVE blogging, and love reading everyones blogs even more...BUT I was doing way too much of it. So my health has gotten better and I'm back, BUT I'm keeping it down a lot....I just cant take the time I did, I've been online now for 2 hours catching up on blogs and did a short post! Thats crazy! I just cant do it.....it cant take over...so I'll keep my blogging to a minimum and not let it take over, I understand why you are taking your break...and wish you the best and to bring back your balance. I do hope you come back as you can and can fit it in as you can some, and at least post some pics here and there to share, I'll be checking out your website regardless! Enjoy your time, your family, your break!

  68. Sniff, sniff, we will miss you but I totally understand. Sometimes I feel the same way. There's just not enough time to do it all and you have to draw the line somewhere. Whatever makes you happy, that's what's important.

  69. Awww PG...you were one of the very first bloggers I started following...but I oh so understand. Keep your options open always! Wishing you the very best in everything you choose to do...maybe someday we'll get to ride together into that sunset together (since you live not so far away).

Happy trails to you and My Boy~

  70. I am going to miss My Boy's antics and your wonderful photography and beautiful writing style. Your blog is one of my absolute fav's. I always enjoyed checking to see if you and your sis had been riding on trails, hauling hay, or working with the animals in some form or fashion. I miss having a horse, so I think I lived vicariously thru you. ha, ha
We will miss you, but I am keeping you in my favorites bar, and will check from time to time to see if you have posted.
I wish you and My Boy well in all of you endeavors.

  71. I feel sad but I know you are doing what you have to do. I too quite often feel that I spend way too much time on this computer and I have cut down on how many times I post. I think a lot of us are feeling the time pinch even though we love blogging and the wonderful people that we have met through it. Check in once in a while so we know you and My Boy are okay. Thank you for your kind words about Skip, I appreciate it more then you can know. Take care!!!! xoxox

  72. thanks for all of your kind comments on my blog, about how much I am missing my horse. I will miss your blog, so please stop by and say hi. 77. Holy moly! I'm getting here a little late! Obviously, I have been a little preoccupied too as I am just now reading this post! Just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed getting to know you through blogging. In fact, I think you were my very first "non family" commenter! I was so excited to see your comment on my post about my childhood horse. I've thought about a hiatus myself but feel that I would miss the bloggy relationships I enjoy so much. So I've just become a delinquent blogger I guess. ;) I go to do a post and then get distracted catching up on everyone else's blog posts...pretty soon, I'm out of computer time! So I think it's good for you to take a bit to not worry about blogging...but make sure you don't go too far! Thanks for checking in on me!

  81. Pony Girl--I think the 80 or so people have already said it all for me. I'm happy for you, sad for me you won't be around when I check in. Yes, blogging is a time suck! I'm sitting here on the computer at midnight instead of sleeping. Crazy. I hope to hear from you. I'll check back every once in a while in hopes of some news. Take care and enjoy your time off. :)

Oh, and never stop taking pictures. You have a serious gift.

  82. Awwww, Pony Girl...you will be missed! At least we will get to see you make an appearance or two on your sister's blog :)

I come and go from my blog depending on what is going on...I totally understand your need to pull back for a while. Good luck catching up on other things and be sure to give that beautiful spotted pony of yours a special scritch and a carrot for me!

    Sending hugs!

  86. Everyone's got to do what they feel is right for them. Hope we see you back here someday, even if it's only for one post a week. That's sort of what I'm doing. It just takes so much time to keep things going on a consistent basis. Have a wonderful summer with your boy.
